New to the forum and stoves.

Hi all, I've just joined the forum and am impressed with the wealth of information here.

A while back I started a search for a Glenwood Cabinet C like was in my Grandmother's house. I remember the stove and how nice it was to sit next to it on a cold winter's night. She heated her house with that and a kero heater in the living room. She even cooked on it even though she had a gas range. Well a couple of years ago I found one just like it. Evening People
Thought I'ld share a couple pix of my "Solid fuel burner", with a small Christmas flare. we're suppose to have a cold snap coming, so I fired her up yesterday after work. Took a little longer (bout 2 hrs), B4 I could fill the hopper, but once running, was the 1st time I awoke (6 hrs later) to a warm hallway. The coals were still going strong. Unfortunately the day time highs were over 40 degrees, so I had to adjust my "window stats" (as Fred educated me on)…

Another trip to UAE Harmony mine - with pics!

I ran up to UAE to get my second load of coal for the winter. The previous 2 times I was there, I forgot to take pics. I took some this time. Unfortunately, the guy at the scale confirmed the bad news :cry: He said they only have 4-6 months left that they will be able to mine. The vein of coal is starting to pitch too steeply to continue using the continuous miner, and it's not cost effective to mine by hand. Very unfortunate for us coal burners, and the folks working there.

Here is just quick sample of the mistakes I've heard reported from "sources"...

Wrong person reported as shooter.
Mother worked at the school.
Father was dead.
Body in the Brothers apartment.

What's the best way to replace a fireplace with a stove?

I currently have a wood burning fireplace insert in my finished basement family room, and I would like to replace it with a hand fired coal stove. What method(s) and options will work for this sort of conversion with regard to tying the stove into a chimney that once housed a fireplace? The chimney is on an outside wall of our home, and it is tile lined.

Coal in ash

I have noticed in recent weeks there has been
More coal in my ash I have a Alaska Channing III
I use their Controll which is a solid state timer
With settings 1-6 that adjust my feed I have no
Other Controlls other than my combustion fan which
Runs 100% all the time and my blower motor.
Any ideas why this would happen? My stove is still
Burning nice and hot just seems like some coal isn't being
Used.

Alaska Kodiak-Secondary air over fire?

I keep reading posts about varying secondary air over the fire. I don't believe I have that option w/my hopper fed Alaska Kodiak? All I have is primary air via the front ash door shutter.

I'm having no problems, virtually idiot-proof operation (fortunately); I'm just curious what necessitates air over the fire?

Is this only w/chubby style stoves?

Hello Axemen,
After a week end away I came home to find that a bad noise and after some
exploratory surgery found that my fan had shed a blade and the sleeve
bearings and shaft had taken a beating. Made a new shaft and found
some hardware store bearing and it seems like it will make it through
the night. Any suggestions on the quickest way to get a fan and set up fan box
or at least a fan and sleeve bearings.

fire burnes out

I have an efm af150,rice burner.i got a fresh load of coal,started the burner,had a good fire and it went out.no biggie. I started over, watched it, lookin good and started the feed. it seems to burn around the outside and fresh unburned coal pushes up, but doesnt burn.I cleaned the pot, unplugged a few holes started fresh and that keeps happening.whats wrong? I had the feed at 2 clicks, air on 3 tried pushing the air up to 4, nothing I do is working and i'm getting frustrated.pleeeease help.

Another Ranch basement circulateing question!

I have a 1300sqft ranch with a 1100sqft basement. Block walls non-finished basement, DS1600 stove is at one end of basement and stairway is at oposite end with upstairs door open. Heat raises to end of house with stairway open, but does not make it back towards 2/3rds of living space. Three bedrooms are at other end of house, my wife and my bedroom gets heated at end of house because stove is directley underneath of us, but does not reach 2 other bedrooms. Stoker temp to create hot water ?

I have an extra pionner econno not being used, thinking of putting a hot water coil in it, and plumbing into my hot water electric heater. What kind of temps would I have to run the stove at 24-7 to maintain hot water & hopefully keep the electric heater from working very much.

Not Burning but Plating

Haven't got to the burning part yet. Just starting a restoration.

Anyone know of a good place to get nickel plating done near Binghamton? I'm restoring a Glenwood Modern Oak 118 and eventually a Glenwood C Cabinet cook stove and need to get the nickel re-platted. I'm going to check with Triple Cities Metal Finishing, but also looking for any advise.

Hello Everyone,
For those of you who have followed the various issues I have had with my boiler It may have been the coal after all. I struggled to keep my boiler lite all summer long, I had large amounts of un-burnt coal it my ash pan etc. Well I followed some folks suggestion and tried 2 different brands of coal and got the same results. I keep posting in the different threads, but I am getting confused as to what I have written and what good points have been said. So with that, dicuss where this problem starts.

Does anyone have a recommendation on dealers that STOCK Harman parts?

I have found plenty that will ORDER them from Harman for us, but Harman wants to absolutely kill us on shipping and handling.
