"Big Vein" coal from Georges Creek Field - MD
Since I'm trying out several different coals, I figured I could take some video so folks could see the stuff burning for themselves.
Anyway, this is coal I got from Cobra Mining in Barton, MD, about 12 miles south of Frostburg, MD. The coal I got was their "Lump" size, which varies in size from a little smaller than nut, and some pieces around 5-6". The price was $85/ton.
Here's a quick video of the coal burning in my DS1500 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKPbdPawJUg

Fixing Play Between Inline Grates
Today I did a shut down/clean out and thought it would be the perfect time to try and fix the play between the grates. The grates don't fit snuggly together so what happens is that during shake down the front half of the coal bed gets ash cleared good but the back half not quite so good.. I read where another member on here put in screws to help this issue.. So what I did here is I got a 1/4 inch drill and tap and threaded set screws into the grate where they come together. I even dimpled the…

Looking for a copy of Windows 7....
I'm currently running Windows 7 Ultimate N. It was given to me as a gift with an option of 32 bit or 64. At the time I had no reason for 64 bit but as more and more games use 64 bit I'd like to uograde.
I know this is a long shot but if anyobe has an unused copy of Win7 64 that they'd be willing to sell I'd be greatful as I can't afford to pay Micro$oft's prices.

New to coal stoves and could use some help!
Hello,
I recently moved into a house that has a coal stove. They are not too common in the Philadelphia area so I'm trying to learn as much as I can to use it safely. It is an Alaska stove Channing III model that uses anthracite rice coal. I started it up last week and it is working great but I want to understand a few things better.
- This model has an "Auto Heat Control Box" numbered 1-5. The manual simply says that as you turn the number up the fire will get bigger and output m…

Brunco 150k question
Hi it's been awhile since I posted. Been doing some searching about a brunco forced air furnace. I bought a hotblast back in 2008 like a lot of people did. Tried coal and been burning wood since for obvious reasons. A guy at work has a brunco. I see guys have put ash pan spinners on to add air under the fire. I'm seeing conflicting results of success in burning coal. Would I be wise to stay away from the brunco for coal use? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks
John

Exhaust Heat
I apologize if this has been brought up before, but my searches have come up M/T. It concerns the comparisons pertaining to MPDs vs baros. 1st off, is it true that the stove pipe exhaust carries heat up the chimney? I would think this is a given. I'm also aware that the draft is critical to stove performance. I've heard of discussions explaining if an MPD is closed down, you can extract more heat from the stove due to limiting the heat loss up the pipe.In the baro application, is it possible …

Coal Trol for Dummys
Hi folks
I have a Reading Juniata stove with Coal Trol and power vent that I just installed. I am new to all this coal business. I have been seaching this site for info but as of yet I have not found a comprehensive "for Dummys" info list on what all these settings do. Does one exist that you can point me to? If not would someone be so kind as to put one together? I am looking for something like:

New life for a 1980 DF520
Just finished the install of a 1980 DF520 in my brother's house. Four zones of baseboard in the house, radiant heat in the basement floor. ~4000 sq. ft total, running buck size coal through a 60" auger pipe...no coupling. 7 gpm coil, "Fuel Smart" Hydrostat for the aquastat...adjusts the boiler temperature based on load. Seems to be working very well so far. Many thanks to Dave O'Neil and forum member Pacowy for the boiler.

unfinished storage room/garage
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but..
My stove is located downstairs, half of the basement is finished and insulated the other half not (it is divided with a wall). If I were to open the storage room door which is right next to the stove, would i use a lot more coal? The basement is underground and the cement blocks have permalite inside (a foam type insulation). The stairwell which is used as the heat delivery and cold return is also right there by the stove and the stora…

Tenant pays for fuel, how to handle?
Guys,
I am looking at purchasing some rental property. In New England, many of the properties heat with propane and/or oil and this presents a unique challenge to me. I only have experience with properties supplied with natural gas and any tenant would always get the utilities in his name. I would be responsible for utility charges until date the tenant assumed responsibility and it made it very easy to maintain responsibility over costs.
With oil and propane, the fuel is obviously paid …
